How to run the Online Scanner on Vista

Q: I have Windows Vista installed. Will Online Scanner work on my computer?
A: Yes, with two conditions. First, the Internet Explorer security settings must be set to Medium-High or less and second, Internet Explorer must be started with Administrative privileges.

Q: Why do I need Administrative privileges for Online Scanner?
A: First, because the application needs to use the hard-drive to copy the engines and the signature files for optimized scanning of your entire computer. Second, because a malware might be in the system folders or somewhere on the hard-drive and it can be removed only with administrative privileges.

Q: How do I give administrative privileges to Online Scanner?
A: Well, you do not need to give administrative privileges to Online Scanner. Simply start Internet Explorer with administrative privileges for the scanning period and Online scanner will use those privileges when copying files it needs and when cleaning the computer. To do that, right-click on the internet explorer shortcut and select "run as administrator"


Q: How do I change the Security for Internet Explorer?
A: Open a browser. Go to Tools>Internet Options and select the security Tab. Select Internet and scroll the security level for the zone to Medium-high or lower, or simply press the Default button.

Q: Why do I have to change my Internet Explorer settings, and how is this exposing my computer? Is there another way?
A: You do not need to chage any security setting. Simpply add BitDefender site to your trusted sites.

Q: How do I add BitDefender sites to trusted Sites?
A: Open a browser. Go to Tools>Internet Options and select the security Tab. Select Trusted Sites and press the Sites Button. In the text field complete the following sites and press the Add button for each:
