Viruses target children's gaming websites

"This report highlights the need for children and young people to be made aware of the potential security risks associated with free online gaming sites," said Dr. Joanne Bryce from the cyberspace research unit at the University of Central Lancashire, according to the BBC. "Whilst it is unclear whether these sites for young people are being deliberately targeted, the possibility of computers being infected with viruses or malware may not be something of which young people are fully aware."

Bryce said this is an issue parents need to discuss with their children, and it highlights the need for parents to regularly update their operating system and antivirus program.
The BBC said at the time of the report, no sites seemed to be infected. Still, parents need to be cautious about internet security, especially when it involves children.
