Bitdefender BOX v.1 reaches End of Life on July 1, 2021

Bitdefender BOX v.1 is discontinued as of July 1, 2021

Overview

Bitdefender is committed to delivering innovative, effective security solutions to its customers. As platforms evolve, so do our products and technologies. As a result, Bitdefender continuously develops and shapes its solution set.

The resulting new solutions and feature modifications often lead to a need to discontinue older hardware, software revisions, and product features. This End of Life (EOL) process is an essential part of the lifecycle for security products.

As such Bitdefender BOX v.1 will reach its End of Life on Thursday, July 1st, 2021. This smart cybersecurity hub will no longer be available on the Bitdefender website after this date. It will keep its router features but will stop receiving updates including security fixes after the official End of Life date. Bitdefender BOX 1 was released in 2015 as a consumer cybersecurity hub to protect the Internet of Things (IoT) in your home.

End of Life for the first generation Bitdefender BOX

The Bitdefender EOL process begins with the End of Life announcement and involves the following major milestones:

• End of Life: July 1, 2021. The last date that Bitdefender issues releases or bug fixes for a Bitdefender BOX v.1 device. After this date, we will no longer develop, repair, maintain, or test new software or hardware versions for this cybersecurity hub.

• End of Support: July 1, 2021. The last date customers can receive service and support for a Bitdefender BOX v.1. Typically, this is the same date as the End of Life announcement.

What this means for existing customers

The first generation Bitdefender BOX has helped users protect their IoT home devices and securing their networks. While this technology has become outdated in light of new updates to the second-generation Bitdefender BOX, our goal is to focus our effort on improving the current solution portfolio.

The End Of Life phase means that firmware updates will cease. Bitdefender BOX v.1 will still protect the network with the virus signatures it has already downloaded. Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS devices will continue to be protected by the Total Security product installed alongside Bitdefender BOX. You can renew (link) the Total Security solution for as long as you need.

Bitdefender will continue to offer partial support for Bitdefender BOX v.1 until July 1, 2021. After the official End of Life date, the hub will also reach its End of Support Life.

Customers with a functional Bitdefender BOX will still be able to access its security features indeterminately, for as long as they plan to use their current Bitdefender hardware. However, these features will no longer be officially supported past July 1, 2021.

At the end of the EOL process, Bitdefender will no longer provide the means for users to update or renew the subscription to the discontinued hub and will make unavailable any online materials related to the product.

At any point, users may choose to renew their Bitdefender Total Security, a substitute solution that offers the best anti-malware protection against e-threats across all major operating systems.
