How to troubleshoot Security Server vShield installation / uninstallation

All Bitdefender's Enterprise Security solutions are managed within the GravityZone through a single console, Control Center, that provides control, reporting, and alerting services for various roles within the organization.

This article provides an overview the most common cases of failed deployment tasks and useful tips onto how to fix the errors.

Overview

Security Server deployment tasks might encounter different errors while executing. In general, the deployment tasks fail if the target systems are not compliant with the deployment prerequisites. Another common reason for failed deployment tasks are permission restrictions and networking related misconfigurations.

Failed deployment tasks status messages

  1. Permission to perform this operation was denied

    The deployment task failed because the user account used to synchronize with vCenter server is not vCenter administrator.
    To fix this issue please use a user account with vCenter Administrator permissions. To check the user account permissions use VMware vSphere Client.

  2. Invalid username or password

    The deployment task failed because the custom vShield user account used to deploy Security Server is not vShield Enterprise administrator.
    To fix this issue please use a user account with vShield Enterprise Administrator permissions. To check the user account permissions use VMware vShield Manager web console.

     

  3. The operation is not allowed in the current state

    The deployment task failed because the datastore on which the Security Server will be deployed is out of space.
    To fix this issue please check you have enough space on the datastore selected in the Security Server deployment window.

     

Failed uninstall tasks status messages

  1. No Security Servers were found to uninstall

    The uninstall task failed because there is no network connectivity between GravityZone and Security server machine.
    To fix this issue please make sure you have network connectivity between GravityZone and Security server machine.

     

  2. Invalid vShield credentials

    The uninstall task failed because the vShield user account used to uninstall Security Server is not vShield Enterprise administrator.
    To fix this issue please use a user account with vShield Enterprise Administrator permissions. To check the user account permissions use VMware vShield Manager web console.
